Characteristics
When the negative development has progressed as far as step 6, we have a serious problem in the group. When the negative behavior also apparently has support from parents or the parent group, in addition to one or more employees, everything is in place for a new norm-shifting tendency to occur. This time, it is the new norms that are shifted again. The behavior takes another step in a negative direction and the situation is in a serious and negative development.
When this happens, the negative actions take on a more serious character. In such a development, there is a great risk that the negative actions will become serious, such as threats, offenses, violence and serious offenses at the upper age levels. There is a great risk of involuntary school absence for students, and this often has major consequences for the learning and development of the person who is exposed.
- At this point, there will be a need to involve external support agencies such as the police, child welfare and conflict council. BUP and other supporting agencies may also be necessary.
- At this level, there is a great danger to life and health, both in the short and long term, and it is urgent to stop the development.
- At this point, the road back is long, and the damage that has occurred is often very great. When children/young people are exposed to trauma such as bullying behavior and exclusion over time, it can have major consequences for the development of the brain. It can lead to difficulties in regulating their emotions, and to a narrowing of the tolerance window. The child/youth can begin to face the world with an expectation of being met with contempt and rejection, and becomes very vulnerable to experiences of loss and rejection. The longer the child/youth experiences being exposed to bullying behavior that is not detected, stopped and handled, the greater the risk of major and long-term injuries and wounds. In the worst case, it can have major lifelong consequences for the person who is exposed.
At step 7, where a new norm-shifting tendency occurs, we have a very serious situation in the children/student group, and the environment in the group is not safe and good for anyone.
The person or persons who are exposed to bullying behavior are in a particularly vulnerable situation, where they are highly dependent on safe, courageous and competent adults who see, understand and act, and who are able to implement correct, targeted and effective measures to stop and reverse the negative development.
