Topic 9: How we feel at home
Here you will find practical examples of how you can work practically to turn good values and visions into practical actions in everyday club life.
Small daily rituals can have a big impact
In a sports club, it is absolutely crucial that everyone participates in the work of creating a safe and positive environment between the people in the club, but also so that everyone collectively takes good care of the equipment and the various arenas in which they participate.
"This is how we do it at our house - rules" is a great way to create an inclusive and safe environment in all situations. We believe that small daily rituals can make a big difference, and "This is how we do it at our house - rules" is designed to do just that.
It helps establish a common foundation for mastery, honesty and community. Coaches, leaders and other volunteers are cornerstones of the sports community. By everyone practicing "This is how we do it at our place" it lays a good foundation for creating a positive sports environment where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.
Here is an example of some such rules:

How to establish "This is how we do it at home rules"?
It is important that "This is how we do it at our school rules" are established in collaboration between athletes, coaches, managers and the parent group - this can be done in the following way:
Arrange a meeting for athletes, coaches, managers and parents
In this meeting the following will be done:
- The participants sit in mixed groups.
- A brief presentation of the sport's purpose, the club's vision and values. This is to clarify fundamental values and ensure that everyone has the same starting point.
- The groups talk together and write down some expectations for what it should be like to come to training, matches, tournaments, etc. Each group presents their suggestions to the rest of the group. They agree on some common points that show what the entire group expects.
- The groups then work out 3-5 suggestions for "This is how we have rules at our place" - these are presented to each other.
- Coaches/leaders take responsibility for summarizing 3-5 "This is how we do it at our place" rules that become the group/team/club's common rules.
- Follow-up of the rules occurs by starting all training/activities with a review of "This is how we do it at our place - rules".
Reflection task:
- Does your club have a vision/values? Do you have any common rules, how do these work?
- Why is it important to introduce "This is how we do it at home rules"?
